Firehouse World Event Announces
Move to Los Angeles for 2019

Key partnerships with LA City Fire, LA County Fire, the LA Area Fire Chiefs Association
and the LA Area Regional Training Group helped make the move a reality

FORT ATKINSON, WI, February 14, 2018 — SouthComm Business Media, the owner of Firehouse World—the fire service industry’s premier event for mid- to upper-level management training for fire departments, both domestic and abroad—announces it will move the event to the Los Angeles Convention Center in March 2019.

“This move marks a landmark opportunity for Firehouse World and the Firehouse brand,” says Timothy E. Sendelbach, Firehouse editor-in-chief and conference director. “It reinforces our brand promise to deliver the highest quality training available to all firefighters. By relocating to Los Angeles, we plan to provide training designed specifically for metro/suburban organizations with a strong emphasis on hands-on training, strategy and tactics, leadership and management, professional development, instructional technology, wildland firefighting and fire-based EMS, to name a few. Los Angeles and its surrounding communities provide a perfect backdrop for attendees to learn and share insights with thought leaders from around the globe.”

Instrumental in the decision to relocate Firehouse World was the support offered by the leadership of several fire-service professionals, including Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) Chief Ralph Terrazas, Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Chief Daryl Osby, Pasadena Fire Chief and LA Area Fire Chiefs Association (LAAFCA) President Bertral Washington, as well as the Los Angeles Regional Training Group (RTG), a consortium of 30 major suburban departments in the region, represented by Jim Birrell, RTG executive director and fire chief (ret.) of the Monterey Park Fire Department.

“We applaud and support Firehouse World for making the move to Los Angeles in 2019,” Chief Terrazas says. “Advanced training is an ongoing priority for our departments, and Firehouse has clearly demonstrated a commitment to improving our craft in all their media and live-event platforms. We look forward to offering our expertise and resources to assist in delivering the highest level of training the fire service demands and our communities deserve.”

Chief Osby commends Firehouse World and Firehouse Magazine for providing the fire service with a platform to build relationships with fire agencies worldwide, adding that the Los Angeles region is internationally recognized for its innovation and leadership in the fire service: “Firehouse World provides the forum to showcase our talents as well as collaborate and share tactics and best practices that mutually benefit firefighters and the communities we serve. In our profession, firefighters are constantly looking to acquire knowledge and apply it to improve safety and service delivery. We look forward to continuing the Firehouse World tradition in Los Angeles next year!”

Chief Washington adds that the LAAFCA is excited to have Firehouse World expand the event to the highly diverse region of Los Angeles: “The Los Angeles area’s attractions, combined with the partnerships among our 30 fire departments, representing over 9,000 firefighters, will prove to be a robust foundation for training and networking unlike anywhere else in the world. We welcome firefighters of all ranks, from across the globe, to join us as we commit focused time and effort to maximize our ability to provide the best services possible to our communities.”

For the previous 16 years, Firehouse World had called San Diego its home, and over the years this event has achieved great success. The opportunity to move to Los Angeles will allow Firehouse World to further enhance its position in the industry and offer attendees greater access to the most advanced training and education available while showcasing the latest tools and technology from around the world.

“Our attendees and exhibitors will benefit greatly from the move, as it allows us to expand our educational offerings, provide more space for our vendors and hands-on training venues,” says Ed Nichols, vice president of events and show director for Firehouse World. “We are excited to create more opportunities to bring together fire service professionals and key suppliers.”
